Before you can start this path, travel to the opposite end of the beach from where the final starfish was and knock over a blue item to reveal a racing wheel. On that platform, there will be a small jutting rockface on its left, which when walked on, will reveal the Special Bot. This one references the PS5 game Returnal, and gives you the hint using an image of an astronaut.
Once you encounter the first Shock Walls, make your way South-East into a pink area filled with spider webs you can thrust through. At the end you’ll find an Artefact, as well as a Bot hanging upside-down from the ceiling by a web. This is a reference to 2018’s Spider-Man, developed by Insomnia Games.

The PlayStation 3 used Blu-Ray discs as its optical storage method, a format that would be used for the PlayStation 4 and 5 as well. Because every PS3 came with an internal hard drive, many games supported partially installing data onto the console in advance (which some PS2 games also did, especially in Japan). Until the Wii U, the PS3 was the only system using optical storage with more capacity than a DVD, meaning many games that were on multiple discs elsewhere could be on one PS3 disc. HM88 allowed the PlayStation 2 to connect online for multiplayer, sliding into the Expansion Bay.
Astro’s Playroom is the perfect game to play first to kick off the PlayStation 5 generation. It’s a fluid and fun 3D platformer sure, but it being built around showing off what the DualSense controller can add to gaming Is what really starts to make it special. Add in all of the PlayStation love letters scattered about inside these worlds and you have another magical, must-play experience from Team Asobi. I wish Astro’s latest adventure lasted longer but I have no doubt that we’ll be seeing more of the new PlayStation mascot in the future. For trophy hunters seeking assistance and camaraderie, numerous online resources and communities are available to enhance the Astro’s Playroom platinum journey. Websites like PSNProfiles and TrueTrophies offer detailed trophy guides, roadmaps, and forums where players can share tips, ask questions, and discuss strategies.
After crossing the first Shock Platforms in the heavy rain section, you’ll see on the right a Bot grinding back and forth on a cable. This references inFamous, released on the PS3 in 2009 by Sucker Punch. Protagonist Cole McGrath has electric superpowers one of which is the induction Grind that lets him accelerate along metal cables. Very early into the Electrocloud level, you’ll spot a jet fighter flying about on the right-hand side of the level. This is the R-C01 from the cover of Air Combat, the first game in the Ace Combat series released on the PS1 in 1995 and developed by Namco.
As you’re exploring Playroom’s levels you’ll also stumble across Astro Bots wearing a blue cap and holding a camera. They’re mostly there for the fun of it all rather than to accumulate anything, but every single one of them made me smile, even the few that I had to take a moment to try and guess at. I won’t spoil any more here so as to not rob anyone of the joy of first discovering them.
The Best New Music Releases Of 2025, According To Game Informer Editors
The microphone makes the wind more intense while the vibrations of the sand are felt as the controller feels like a sandstorm. Every level has tons of retro tech to collect and store in the PlayStation Labo. In every level of the game, a little piece of PlayStation’s history is hidden in many nooks and crannies. Whether it’s more recognizable products like the Memory Cards, or historic handheld devices like the PlayStation Portable, they all get stored in the Labo as a form of nostalgic lookback. What caught me off guard the most was the hub area, CPU Plaza, having surprise platforming sections along its walls that spring to life instantly.

Astro’s Playroom is the latest platformer starring Astro Bot that comes pre-loaded on the PlayStation 5. Join Astro and his crew and experience a magical introduction through the PS5, exploring four worlds based on PS5’s console components. Each area showcases innovative gameplay that taps into the new features of the DualSense.
From mastering the DualSense controller’s unique features to uncovering hidden collectibles and completing challenging time trials, every aspect of Astro’s Playroom must be conquered. The majority of the trophies fall into the Bronze category, rewarding players for completing specific tasks within each of the game’s four worlds. These tasks often involve utilizing the DualSense controller’s features in creative ways, such as blowing into the microphone or precisely controlling Astro using the adaptive triggers. Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a 2018 platform video game developed by Japan Studio’s Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4’s PlayStation VR headset. It stars a cast of robot characters first introduced in The Playroom, where they appeared as robots that lived inside of the DualShock 4 controller.
On the right-hand side of the pool at the very end of Bot Beach is a bloated Bot with a crown on its head and a cake on its belly. This is a reference to 2009’s Fat Princess for the PS3, developed by Titans Studios. The game was a twist on Capture the Flag where you feed your Princess cake to make her heavier, and thus harder for your opponents to steal. At the start of Deep Dataspace, check the right-hand side for a lower area where a Bot in a red trench coat is constantly firing on a jester-looking Bot. This references 2001’s Devil May Cry on PS2, developed by Capcom Production Studio 4. This scene depicts protagonist Dante keeping a Marionette enemy in the air by constantly shooting at him, showcasing the franchise’s famous juggling mechanic.
After reaching the first Checkpoint in Caching Caves, look for a box frame structure in the ground you can drop into. In addition to a Puzzle Piece, you’ll see a Bot prancing down a line and clearing various shape-based obstacles. Vib-Ribbon was unique in that it loaded entirely into the PS1’s RAM, allowing players to insert their own music CDs to play levels to.
My favorite track overall, however, was the SSD Speedway, featuring sounds that match the game’s presentation perfectly. The final neat feature of Astro’s Playroom is the Network Speed Run challenge levels. You can do normal platforming challenge levels with Astro or ones focused on each suit to earn the best times.
It’s clear that gamers love these little bots, and the excitement for them now is that their full-fledged PS5 game, Astro Bot, is coming in a few weeks. Astro’s Playroom is more than a demo as its charm and gameplay shine through to every player. But once you do dive in, there’s no shortage of joy that comes from how Team Asobi has translated in-game surfaces, objects, and movement into different DualSense sensations. Need to get back to it for the special bots, downloaded it the other day but just haven’t got around to it. (LeMans and other duties) @BrettAwesome It’s been updated, hasn’t it. It seems the special bots are integrated into the guide as opposed to being tacked on as an addendum.
Once you do, these bots will be added to your collection of bots when you play Astro Bot.
